Team DC is the association of LGBT and LGBT-friendly sports clubs in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area.  We also welcome individuals who are gearing up for national and international competitions such as the Gay Games.

adventuringAdventuring is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization whose mission is to encourage participation in non-competitive and recreational outdoor activities such as Hiking, Biking (Recreational)Camping, Backpacking and other activities such as cabin trips; skydiving; rafting, sailing and canoeing; skiing and ice skating, etc.. Trips, tours and events are open to anyone who enjoys the experience of the outdoors.

SENTINELS_logoThe DC Sentinels provides a meeting place for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) basketball athletes. They foster an environment in which basketball is a fun and exciting  means of fellowship for individuals and strive to promote excellence, integrity, and  good sporting conduct. The Sentinels believe basketball can be used as a tool to create lasting relationships between people from all walks of life.

Biking (Recreational)

outridersThe OutRiders is a metro DC cycling group founded in 2013 for the LGBTQ community and their allies.  They sponsor rides in DC, Virginia and Maryland that range from weekend trips of 25 to 60 miles to casual short after-work bike rides. They also participate as a group in centuries and other regional cycling events.  All levels welcome!

Bocce is also known as Lawn Bowling and is easy enough for any age or skill level.  Stonewall Bocce offers competitive, yet fun 8 week leagues throughout the year and all equipment is provided.  They play on Thursday nights in Logan Circle starting at 6:30 PM and then head over to their Host Bar, Nellie’s, afterwards.   Be sure to sign up for a team quickly as it will sell out…Bocce is very popular because it is so much fun!

Capital Area Rainbowlers Association / www.carabowling.orgThe Capital Area Rainbowlers Association (CARA) is a member-supported organization composed of gay and lesbian bowling leagues in the metropolitan Washington, DC area. CARA is composed of more than 600 bowlers on 12 leagues in DC, Maryland and Virginia.  All skill levels are welcome!

Ballroom, Country/Western, Latin

CWdanceThe DC Rawhides are a social dance group that meet every other Friday night at Town Danceboutique for “Town and Country”.  Lessons are given from 7-8 PM and then there is Open Dancing from 8-10:30 PM.  Styles include Country/Western, Two-Step, Line Dancing, Waltz and West Coast Swing.
lambdadancesportLambda Dancesport DC is another great way for LGBT dancers in the Baltimore/Washington, DC metropolitan area to meet for practice or lessons and get a surprisingly good work out.  All dance styles, including Ballroom, Country/Western, Latin, Salsa & Rueda, Disco/Hustle and Swing are included.  Whether you are new and looking for social dancing or more experienced and training to compete, you’ll find it here.

Flag Football

dcgfflThe DC Gay Flag Football League (DCGFFL) started in the mid 90’s and has grown into one of the top flag football leagues in the United States with 20 teams and over 300 players.  They offer a Spring and Fall season as well as travel to tournaments throughout the United States.  Their motto is “Get Off the Bench and Get in the Game!”  Space is very limited, so we encourage that you attend their fundraisers and other social events to meet the teams and get involved.


lambdalinksLambda Link’s mission is to promote and provide a social forum for golf camaraderie for the LGBT Community regardless of faith, ethnicity, gender, race, age or ability.  They help organize regular golf outings for players of all skill levels throughout DC/VA/MD area.

Ice Skating

DC IceBreakersThe DC Ice Breakers is a GLBTQ social group that meets monthly year-round for informal ice skating at the Ballston Kettler Capitals Iceplex in Arlington.  (Easy parking or the Ballston Metro is only 1 block away!)  They start around 8 PM and skate for an hour before heading to a nearby restaurant to warm up and socialize.  No membership fee, no sign-up, no RSVP—just show up!

KickballDC Kickball
DC KickballDCKickball is a league that is split into multiple divisions, which play their games at a particular field and on certain day(s) of the week. Each division is then made up of 8-16 teams and is run by a Board, which is comprised of players from that division.Stonewall Kickball 
Stonewall is an LGBTQ & Ally community-based, non-profit sports league that strives to raise funds for local non-profit organizations. Our league values each player for who they are and what they bring to the league’s community.

SplatsThe Capital Splats is a group for LGBT & allies racquetball players in the Washington, DC, metro area. The group organizes regular meet-ups for racquetball players of all skill levels. Members can use the group as a forum to set up matches and occasional social gatherings. Whether you are a novice or expert player, please feel welcome to join! DC StrokesThe DC Strokes Rowing Club (DCSRC) is committed to bridging gaps between communities by building an inclusive environment, fostering personal growth and promoting the true spirit of sportsmanship. DCSRC programs offer opportunities for rowers of all experience levels regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation or income. They offer morning or evening workouts and even have a “Learn to Row” program for the person just learning the sport.  DCSRC is one of only two dedicated, independent GLBT rowing clubs in the world.

Rugby (Men’s & Women’s)

The Washington Renegades fields teams in both the Division III and IV rugby union football club, a member of the Potomac Rugby Union and USA Rugby. They provide a solid rugby and social experience for both seasoned players and newcomers to the sport. All are welcome to play for the Renegades. We are a diverse mix of people from the DC metropolitan area welcoming players regardless of sexual orientation, race, ethnicity or income. New recruits are always welcome, no experience required. We’ll teach you everything you need to know!
The Washington Scandals Rugby ClubScandals are a new gay men’s rugby club started in 2013.  They offer competitive play for new and skilled players.  Learn more about their upcoming season and connect with other players on their Facebook page.

FuriesThe DC Furies Women’s Rugby Team was founded in 1978 and play at the most competitive level of Women’s Club Rugby and participates in the Women’s Premiere League (WPL).  The Furies play in local, national and international matches and host the annual Ruggerfest each Spring, one of the most popular tournaments in women’s club rugby.
bee1The Maryland Stingers Women’s Rugby Team is a Division 2 team based in College Park, Maryland.  They focus on competitive play, teamwork and having fun.  If you are a seasoned rugby player or would just like to learn more about the game, there is a place for you here!

DC Front Runners / www.dcfrontrunners.orgThe DC Front Runners was founded in 1981 and is a running, walking and social club for gay people and friends in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Membership is open to all people regardless of race, pace, age, gender, sexual orientation, or athletic ability. Visitors to the DC area are welcome to join their runs or walks.  Their most popular gathering is on Saturday mornings for runners and walkers alike!

Rainbow Spinnakers is a non-profit organization that provides the LGBT community opportunities to develop sailing skills and promote the community of sailing.  Whether you have your own boat or not and whether you are a novice or a seasoned Captain, all are welcome!

Scuba Diving    

lambdadiversLambda Divers is a nonprofit, social organization dedicated to promoting scuba diving in the LGBT Community.  In addition to sharing information about certification, they are a great resource to learn about upcoming scuba trips and occasionally are able to coordinate trips.  Previous trips have included Australia, the Caribbean and Mexico.

Ski Bums

Skiers and boarders of all skill levels are welcome, from total newbies to seasoned pros. You can choose from dozens of trips each year to local hills and resorts in Colorado, Utah, California, Wyoming, Vermont, Europe and South America. Lambda SquaresDC Lambda Squares is a lesbian and gay-inclusive square dance club serving the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The club provides opportunities for members, visitors, and guests to dance in non-traditional roles and a comfortable environment for socializing around square dancing activities. The club fosters relationships with other square dancing clubs and organizations and with social, educational, and charitable organizations within the LGBT communities.

DC Aquatics Club (DCAC)

dcac-logoDCAC is a high-energy swim team and social club whose mission is to promote competitive and fitness swimming for lesbians & gays and their friends in a team-oriented, professionally-coached setting. Established in 1988, DCAC is dedicated to promoting the sport of swimming. All swimmers, regardless of sexual orientation, sex, race, color, religion, age, or national origin are invited and welcome to join. With close to 150 swimmers, DCAC ranks as one of the largest USMS teams in the Potomac Valley region, is one of the largest 50 teams in the U.S., and is one of the largest (primarily, but not exclusively) gay and lesbian teams in the world.

CTAThe Capital Tennis Association was formed in 1994 as a not- for-profit organization with the primary purpose of coordinating and promoting the sport of tennis within the Washington DC metropolitan gay and lesbian community. CTA provides casual and organized tennis programs—a terrific way to compete and socialize in a supportive atmosphere with other sports enthusiasts.

CapCityVBCapital City Volleyball (CCV) is based in Washington, DC and offers opportunities to play indoor and outdoor volleyball in the DC metropolitan area. CCV provides a social and competitive environment for individuals to meet new people and improve volleyball skills, while maintaining integrity and good sporting conduct.
